On December 15, 2007, Kat and her partner Bill Meyer opened up Tecolote Guitar Works, (www.tecoloteguitarworks.com) which combines Bill's guitar repair expertise with the sales of guitar accessories and an art gallery featuring art about music. Kat's art therapy office and workshop space is a part of this new venture, at 1231 Morena Blvd, San Diego 92110. |
Kathryn Kirby was born in New Jersey in the 1950's. She grew up in a family that valued art and music, and learned from an early age that creativity and self- expression are keys to a fulfilling life.
After graduating from Millburn High School, Kathryn went on get her undergraduate degree in Art Education and Ceramics from Kean University, and her Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.She has lived in New York, Virginia, Boston, England, Rhode Island, and Philadelphia. After her parents retired to Coronado, she decided that life on the west coast suited her, and she settled in San Diego in 2002.
For many years Kathryn had a pottery production studio, where she made slab built, stamped pots which she embellished with words and phrases, such as “passion”, “imagine”, “dream”, “believe” and “spirit”, as well as “wild woman” and “live, love, laugh”. Although she no longer has her own pottery business, she continues to work in clay and mosaics, and leads workshops in tile making and mosaics.
Kathryn works as an Art Therapist in a variety of residential programs helping people recover from addictions and eating disorders, and also has a private practice in Bay Park. She is a SoulCollage facilitator, and enjoys leading workshops in this wonderful collage technique, which adds to her belief that Art has amazing healing powers.
